I am a self-taught contemporary artist from the DC metro area. I have been painting for more than 20 years; I work with vibrant colors and unique textures to produce one-of-a-kind artworks. One of my defining principles is the expression of a multitude of emotions through color and form. Through my art, I explore the energy that I sense from the life within and around me.
I predominantly produce abstract art using acrylics but have worked with other mediums in the past. I mainly follow two themes - abstracts and floral abstracts. My floral abstracts are what some floral scenes mean to me. My love for flowers is perpetual; I can never stop admiring the beauty of florals. So, as Frida Kahlo once said, 'I paint flowers so they will not die'.
Through my abstracts, I seek to take my audience into a world of color and form that gives way to feel the essence behind my paintings. I like to complement colors to create drama and sometimes add metallics in the background to emphasize textures. I experiment with a variety of tools including palette knives, my hands, and many other self-made instruments.
Overall, I am a big fan of color and texture and want to uplift my audience with my themes.
On the personal front, I am a woman, wife, mother, scientist, educator, and an artist. I embrace and absorb all my life’s experiences and derive great pleasure in expressing them onto my canvas in countless colors, patterns, textures, and stories.
Painting is my meditation and color gives me joy.
